The Ogun State House of Assembly has said it is ready to look into the frequent disruption of the academic calendar of the state-owned Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta
rowberrymedia reports that the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school, had early this month, embarked on a strike to demand their unpaid three months’ salaries.
The students also recently staged a protest to challenge the hike in admission acceptance fee from N35,000 to N50,500 as well as the delay in the release of their examination results.
The Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Yusuf Amosun, presented reports on the frequent disruption of the academic calendar at MAPOLY, to the house.
After debating on the issue, the Assembly resolved to convene a public hearing to address issues affecting the institution and protect the students from unnecessary delay caused by the strike.
The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, said the Assembly would take submissions from MAPOLY’s Governing Board, management and staff, as well as students.
Meanwhile, the Assembly, also passed the Ogun State Legislative Funds Management Law, 2023; and the Ogun State Judiciary Funds Management Law, 2023, to ensure judicious allocation of funds to the two arms of government preparatory to the take-off of their financial autonomies.
